so I was talking to this guy, he is smart but is like if you are a bit smart then you are also full of yourself... also if you are stupid you cam be full of yourself, of course :)
anyway so I was chatting and came up to on of the old eternal type of talks, about the church, doctrine and ethics
what I wanted initially was to say that sometimes even if you talk with somebody not stupid you cannot have a decent-logical dialog, in this case as I said because somehow I think he thought he is right and because he is not stupid and common like most of people he cannot be wrong?! but maybe also because if you have behind the religious belief than it does not seems to have a point to talk of logic? :)
what I actually wanted to say, and that is because of my latest reading, is that I do not know of any ethic that can work well and that is not because it is wrong but because people do not understand it correctly, and I mean even the religious ones
let me explain this
it is mostly about turn the other cheek thing, don't do bad to others and so on
of course that any ethic advice on doing good but it does not say you should not defend yourself, and it actually does say that and also to act when others are in danger, so you protect them by doing harm to whoever threaten them
it does not say in the bible or somewhere, I think, to turn the other cheek and let yourself killed or harmed, otherwise you could not spread; I am joking but indeed you cannot just let shitty things happened to you and to people, I do not think that any ethic(al) doctrine would preach that, I cannot think that God would let you stay on your ass if you can prevent someone getting killed
non-acting is as bad as doing bad
and you can see that today, you don't need 2 be 2 smart, all the resources depleting, all the political crap and wars are there taking place because we are not acting, but we think we don't do anything bad, au contrair
and I think if I get someone commenting to this will say: but what are YOU, meaning me ;), DOING? does not matter, matter what are you doing!!!
or you need ideas?
